My First Week in Review!!

Wow. So my first week on Capitol Hill is over. It is so much fun!!

I love my internship. My building is right off of the Capitol South metro stop so it's nice and easy. My apartment is 8 Metro stops away, so it takes about 15 minutes. All in all my commute to and from work is only like a half hour. SUPER EASY!

I live in Foggy Bottom - at George Washington University. My apartment is really nice with a dorm feel. I share a room and a bathroom with one other person and then two other girls share a room and a bathroom. Our living room furniture isn't anything to write home about, but one of my roommates brought up a TV and I am eternally grateful!

Work is pretty routine. I answer phones, sort mail, and give Capitol Tours. I actually haven't given a solo tour yet, but I'm pretty sure Thursday is the day. Capitol Tours are the best part of my day. I get to take 2.5 hours out of my workday and go tour our nation's Capitol Building with an excited group of constituents. On one tour last week, Holly and I were able to see the Congressman voting! SO exciting!

This weekend was definitely the Washington, DC Welcome Wagon! Friday night, my roommate from IL and I went out with another girl from UF and we had SUCH a blast! We went to this bar called McFadden's and then proceeded onto the Hill and made an extended stop at The Hawk and Dove. So much fun! Saturday morning was spent in recovery but in true Florida Gator style, I rallied for the Dave Matthews Band Concert. HOLY FUN! It was an hour bus ride out to the stadium (in Northern Virginia) and then we got there in time to tailgate before the concert started. I didn't really know a lot of Dave's songs but the ones that I did know, I thoroughly enjoyed.

Sunday was another day in recovery and I rallied for Mass at St. Stephen's Church. The church was nice - modern architecture with a traditional service. I think I'm going to change things up and find another church to go to next weekend. There are a TON here! :)

This week, Congress is not in session so I get to wear casual clothes - currently I'm wearing a green knit top, jeans, and boat shoes! I love when we're out of session!! On the docket for the weekend thus far is Mama Mia (the play is showing at the National Theatre) and the AT&T National Golf Tournament hosted in Bethesda, MD by Tiger Woods! It should be a good time!!

I also found out that Carissa and Isty will be visiting me July 17th!! I'm soo excited! I need to find bars and touristy things to see and do!! :) Hopefully, MalMal will be able to come that weekend too!

Well, that's my week in review. I'll try to update this thing more often...I kind of forgot about it!

Hope everyone is having a great summer!! I can't believe it's already half way over!

I'm Back!

Hi Family and Friends!
So I decided to create another blog to document my summer's travels! Of course I will also be writing in a journal because that's how I roll, but I figured for all the techies out there, you'd enjoy my chronicals!
I will be interning with a Florida Representative from June 23rd to August 8th in his Congressional Office in the Cannon Office Building which happens to be the oldest House Building!!

I will be living in the George Washington University dorms with three other girls!

My address for those 7 weeks is as follows:

Kristen Lunny
Ivory Tower #508
616 23rd Street NW
Washington, DC 20052

Feel free to send me letters and as long as you send a return address, you'll get a postcard reply!

Until June 21st, I will be at home studying for the LSAT. Literally 5 days after the Law School Admissions Test, I'll be wisking away to Baltimore to spend the weekend with my Phi Mu Little Sister, Gracie, and starting my DC journey!!

Wish me luck! :)
